Member of the public thanks volunteer police officer for kindness
A member of the public has thanked one of our volunteer police officers who went out of his way to take his wife to a family member’s funeral after their car broke down.
A man has got in touch to thank Special Constable Dan Cooper for his exceptional service when his car broke down on a busy road.
The driver and his wife needed our assistance when they were unable to move the vehicle from a live lane so it could be recovered.
SC Dan Cooper, a volunteer police officer in our Roads Policing Unit, swiftly responded and closed a section of the road to divert traffic while the vehicle was being recovered.
The pair were on their way to the funeral of a close relative and Dan offered to take them to the church for the funeral. While the driver went to the garage to get the car repaired, Dan took his wife to the church to attend the service.
The driver said: “Throughout the whole unfortunate incident, the service of SC Dan Cooper was first class and we would like you to offer a special commendation to him for his kindness and professional skill."
Dan has volunteered as a Special Constable for more than six years on a specialist team in the Roads Policing Unit and has received response and traffic law training.
