Work Experience
The Essex Police Work Experience Programme is currently
under review and there are no vacancies for 2013.
Work experience is about giving young people an insight into
working life. If you’re in your last two years of compulsory
schooling or are taking a post-16 course, we can help do just
that.
You don’t have to want to be a police officer either. Whether
you have your sights set on being a physical instructor or are
thinking about a career in IT, we may be able to offer a work
experience placement to suit.

Past students
have enjoyed their placements and it has ignited an interest in law
and policing.

coordinator
Many young people ask to do work experience with us because they
expect it to be like their favourite television show, CSI or The
Bill usually, but the reality is quite different.
Due to health and safety and force policy all work experience
placements are non-operational so you won’t be involved in
operational duties like accompanying police officers on patrol.
That doesn’t make work experience with Essex Police any less
interesting or rewarding though. We offer valuable placements where
students are encouraged to reach their full potential and gain an
understanding of working in an office environment.
Placements can (where possible) be arranged at a number of
police stations across Essex and at our headquarters in various
roles from administration assistant to mechanic.
Louise Linzell-Williams co-ordinates work experience at Essex
Police.
She said: "Work placements at Essex Police give students a good
feel for how Essex Police operates.
"The number of applications is increasing, with students clearly
having an avid interest in Essex Police. They don't all want to be
a police officer - working as a member of police staff is just as
attractive. Past students have enjoyed their placements and
it has ignited an interest in law and policing.

Work experience
has given me a really good insight into Essex Police and what goes
on behind the scenes.

Headquarters
"Unfortunately we are not able to let students sit in the back
of a police car during a pursuit or have a look around the forensic
labs, but if they want an overview of how Essex Police operates
then this placement is a good start."
