Air observer is model helicopter champion
Lee Marshall’s life revolves around helicopters. He is an
observer on the force helicopter, QH99, but in his spare time he is
a national champion at building and flying radio-controlled
scale-model helicopters.

Lee won the UK title for the second year running in August with his
7ft-long model of a Bell 47.
The model, mostly built from scratch, has won numerous other awards
in contests designed to test a modeller’s building and flying
skills.
Lee, who has been with the Air Support Unit since 2004, also has a
large model of a Bell Huey and he is currently building a Westland
Scout and a Boeing Apache.
He says: “I’ve always been fascinated with helicopters. Getting to
fly in one at work, then being involved in the technicalities of
their development, building and flying as a hobby is the best of
both worlds.”
