Sixteen cars damaged

Police have released a description of a car they believe was involved in a series of damages to 16 cars in one night in Layer De La Haye.

All of the vehicles are believed to have been damaged just before 5am on Sunday, May 23. The majority were parked in the New Cut area.

Pc Mel Wilson explained: “We are looking to speak to the driver of a black Mitsubishi van – either an Animal or Warrior – which had tinted windows.

"We believe there were two young men in the vehicle, and that one of them was hanging out of the window with a baseball bat, striking the cars as they drove along.

“This is completely mindless damage and has been carried out with absolutely no thought whatsoever for the owners of the vehicles and the residents who live nearby.

"Most of the vehicles’ front or rear windscreens were smashed, and a large number of them have also been damaged in other ways, including dents to the bodywork, and wing mirrors ripped off. We’ve estimated that the total cost of repairing the vehicles will be over £5000.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who has any information about this incident. The two men are described as being in their 20s and of slim build. Do you recognise the description of the car? Did you hear or see anything suspicious that night? Please get in touch, all calls will be dealt with in confidence.”

Pc Wilson can be contacted at Tiptree police station on 0300 333 4444 or anonymously on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
