Instant justice for victims of burglary
A teenage burglar who used a ladder to climb into a
bedroom where a child was sleeping has been dealt with at court
less than 24 hours after being arrested.
Basildon Youth Court imposed instant justice on a 15-year-old from
the town on August 3, making him the subject of an 18 month
Detention and Training Order.
In the early hours of Monday, August 2, an 11-year-old boy woke at
his home in High Street, Shoebury to find a burglar sitting on
The boy ran to his parents who called the police.
The burglar had used a ladder taken from the garden of the house
to climb through the first floor window.
When he was searched he was found to be in possession of property
stolen from another burglary in nearby Wakering Avenue,

charged with two counts of burglary and held in custody to appear
before the youth.
Detective Inspector Jim Sandford of Southend CID said, "I hope that
the 11-year-old and his parents are reassured by the prompt police
response and court appearance.
