Our Structure
Essex Police has four countywide commands. These are:
- Operational Policing Command
- Crime and Public Protection Command
- Criminal Justice and Offender Management Command
- Neighbourhood Policing Command
The Neighbourhood Policing Command has three local policing
areas. These are:
- North Local Policing Area - covering Colchester, Tendring,
Uttlesford and Braintree, Chelmsford and Maldon district policing
areas
- West Local Policing Area - covering Harlow, Thurrock and Epping
Forest and Brentwood district policing areas
- South Local Policing Area - covering Basildon, Southend and
Castle Point and Rochford district policing areas

Each district is split into neighbourhoods. A neighbourhood is a
small area with a dedicated policing team typically made up of an
inspector, sergeant, police constable and police community support
officer.
Essex shares a number of resources with Kent Police
including:
- Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate
- Transport Services
- IT Directorate
- Procurement Services
- Marine Unit
